Visitor Statistics

Out of sheer curiosity, I thought I’d take a look at the visitor statistics for the site. Since adopting a more regular posting schedule we’ve nearly doubled the page views here since last year to 6754 as of time of writing.

This is a huge leap, and while it may feel small beans, it’s truly impressive considering this is mostly just me wittering away to myself in the corner.

Not only that, but the number of individual visitors for this year is only 300 short of the total number of page views for last year. 3360 people have been curious enough to come take a look around this year. Thank you all very much, whether you’re human, bot, household pet, or extremely unlucky extraterrestrial. What on earth are you all doing here?

For all that, there’s only been 30 (moderated) comments on the site. I’ve had a few on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and G+ where the links to these posts appear and it seems people are happier commenting there.

I’m obviously not particularly contentious, so perhaps I should start writing the occasional deliberately contrary post to see who I can tempt out of the woodwork. Or not; I’ve enough going on without manufacturing drama among those who “have read your blog”…

So there we are, a bit dry, but I’ll no doubt ruminate more nearer the end of the year. Good night, and may the stats be ever in your favour.

Statistics Go Boom

Out of curiosity, largely because sleep is eluding me and it’s been a while, I just took a look at the blog statistics. We’re about fifty unique page views short of breaking the total page views for this site last year.

That’s incredible. I normally get between nine and a dozen people visit every day, and the page views typically range from 20 to 30 per day. Considering this is such an eclectic and unfocused blog, mostly consisting of my writing up games material and pontificating on whatever has caught my imagination, well it’s slightly bemusing

But thank you all for dropping by and even occasionally saying hello…

Statistical Musings

I don’t think I’ve met anyone who run a blog who isn’t fascinated by the statistics of who visits their site. We all like the validation of knowing that we’re not just warbling out into the void, and that someone has taken the time to read our musings.

One of the repeated pieces of advice I’ve read about blogging and websites has been the importance of regular updates. It sounds obvious, and sounds easy, but it can be one of the hardest habits to get into. As a writer this should come easily, but then the hardest part of writing is often getting started. There’s something about a blank piece of paper or unreal estate on the screen that can be extremely intimidating, especially when there are so many other demands in the day – work, paid articles, cleaning the house, shopping, sleeping, eating, reading, games – so there’s a self discipline that really doesn’t seem to get any easier.

The statistics of a growing site therefore are a small reward for persevering. Today’s small fillip of satisfaction comes from noticing that as of the time of writing, there have been 2233 view of the site this year, coming from 1,209 visitors. My total number of views in 2008 was 1894, with no statistics for the number of visitors as WordPress weren’t tracking that at the time. In 2014, there were 3615 views from 2158 people, so that’s a target that seems very chaseable…
