Yesterday was my first day back at the day job after the Christmas/New Year break and its safe to say it was a bit of a shock to the system. I’ve had a fairly sedentary couple of weeks apart from some long driving stints between the two main feast days. Finding myself having to switch to non-stop shifting and shelving of books on possibly the busiest day I’ve encountered in a number of years. I, like most people, will often joke about things being ‘non-stop’, but it seemed as though everyone who had taken books out for Christmas over the last month or so all decided to return them, all at once, to us.
So perhaps I shouldn’t be entirely surprised that my back is playing up. Not sure if its muscle spasms or a trapped nerve, but I’ve been having to wander around with the aid of my trusty skull-topped cane today. As my daughter remarked: “if you’re going to use a walking stick, it might as well be a cool one…!”
Oh well – painkillers, hot water bottles and the enjoyment of watching Small playing Halo seem to be the order of the day. There are worse ways to spend a weekend.
