New Year, New Colds

Or rather, the same cold I had before the New Year, which doesn’t seem to have ever quite gone away, but has instead decided this week to flare back up.

Yuck.

On the plus side it has meant I’ve done a lot of reading and drawing while drowning my symptoms in lemsip and whisky.

On the downside it has meant that my energy has been quite low, even while we marked the first anniversary of our polycule (admittedly by mostly lying on the sofa and groaning at each other about whose turn it was to make a cuppa).

Hopefully the cold is back on the wane – just as well as I’m heading down to Portsmouth for a weekend with Lady S. Maybe the sea air will blow some cobwebs away.

And Then, Sickness

It was all going so well, if only on the blogging and creativity front. I should have realised 2016 wasn’t done with me yet. Lady M has been suffering with a string of things the last few weeks, but this weekend she passed on her frankly horrific cold to me. Thanks love.

As a result I’ve joined a great very many people in coughing, spluttering and looking like the risen dead on minimal sleep from broken nights and an inability to breathe due to coughing fits.

It’s getting better, but I had hoped to manage to get to the end if the year without any colds of note so there’s a slight grumpiness to my demeanour while I work at the moment.

Lady M has it much worse, as it’s hit her asthma and knocked her sideways. I’ve left her today tucked up in bed trying to sleep it off. As she normally tries to power through these things, it’s a mark of just how ill she is. The GP has confirmed it hasn’t turned into an infection at least and they’ve x-rayed her chest to be sure her lungs are okay, but she’s really not at all well.

And to complete my trail of devastation, it appears that my roadtrip to see Mre B on Monday has left her similarly confined to quarters and doing a good impression of a grumpily dozy dormouse.

Oh well. It could be worse. I could be one of the mice we found at one of the libraries that had been nibbling on the wiring for the security and CCTV systems. Works are under way…

Clocks go forward in the UK tonight

Though given my usual casual relationship with time, it may already have happened, in which case this should make for an entertaining timestamp on the post. After a busy day showing Charleesi options for her next laptop, I’m feeling more tired than usual so I’ll probably be even more zombie like in the morning, so that’s something for tomorrow’s tabletop gamers to anticipate.

I’m inclined to put the blame for the tiredness on the tail end of the head cold, which does seem to be moving on at a good pace. If the Jawbone’s assessment of my sleep patterns is anything to go by though, I’ve also been having some very restless nights this week, so it seems to be a bit of a coin-toss unless one is causing the other.

In the meantime, I seem to have passed the cold back to Lady M, even though I think she’s still technically got the first one from six weeks ago (the joys of asthma). An awful lot of pillows seem to feature in our bed at present. I do worry they’ll fall and crush me while I sleep – maybe that’s the cause of the restlessness!
