Win Some, Lose Some

We’re still shuffling things for the restructure, and I have new twists appearing every day. Today I’ve gained a new manager, and lost one, but then that person will now be a peer at my level, while others have been receiving less happy news.

I am so pleased for the people who have succeeded, even while cursing under my breath at yet another rota reshuffle being needed. I’m also looking for ways to support and build up people who haven’t been successful, especially where their nerves have got the better of them.

Even with all the deadlines and shuffling around, the basic needs of my staff and colleagues are important and I’ll be looking how best to help people along while we keep the wheels turning.

Building The Team

I had the great pleasure right at the end of the working day to be able to confirm positions for another two managers who will be part of my team as of next month. Its been a long day so it was a nice capstone on it all to finish that way.

The rest of the day was filled with stock management, directing cabling works, and a variety of the more colourful customers who frequent our doors, so it has been somewhat varied, as days in the library go.

Lady M, in the meantime, is going to go back to her offices tomorrow – for the first time in about 15 months – so it’s an early start for her in the morning. Hopefully that will go smoothly.

And in polycule news: myr s became the last of us to get their first vaccination jab. My second will be on Saturday morning, and Lady B has already had hers so it’s good to see progress back towards life regaining some form of equilibrium.

Oh, and I saw this the other day, and couldn’t resist snapping it up:

On Edge

I have a job interview tomorrow and I’ve spent all day reviewing and revising documentation while also preparing a presentation on expected challenges

It’s an internal post that has come up during the restructure, and so if nothing else its a good practice run for the application for my own post that I have to do at the end of this week.

And that’s about all I care to say about it all at this point because I’m frazzled and anxious and my perfectionist side is warring with my confidence to wing it in much the same way as it battles when I prep for one of the weekend games.

So if you know me and think I’m being quiet, that’s the reason why. It’s been a busy week between the mental health first aider assessment, the Sunday game, and this interview. That’s not even mentioning the day job. Oh well. Wish me luck!

Unexpected Smiles

The week is rushing ahead, even if my knees are creaking, but at least it’s nearly payday. This week we’ve mostly been trying to support staff in writing their supporting statements ahead of the restructure.

What has been an unexpected pleasure in what is an onerous task has been the morale boosts. People are being reminded of just how much experience and how wide a skill set they have. Watching those realisations dawn on people’s faces has been a delight.

For many of the older staff this is the first supporting statement for a job re-application that they’ve had to do in decades, so there’s a lot of concern. Going through this process has calmed a lot of fears, so that’s a good thing for all concerned.
